Two-factor authentication provides an extra layer of security on top of your username and password, making it harder for the intruders to gain unauthorized access. It is delivered to you either by text message or a secure application on your device, making it virtually impossible for the hacker to get ahold of your account.

When logging into RealAtom with your username and password (assuming two-factor authentication is enabled), it will require you to verify your login through a second linked device, such as an SMS message or the Authenticator Application from Google.

Because two-factor authentication requires that someone logging into an account has access to a physical device belonging to only the account owner, the risk of a potential bad guy gaining access to your account is significantly reduced.

Setting up two-factor authentication is easy. You will need to have your phone with you.

How to enable 2-factor authentication:

  1. After logging into your RealAtom account, click on your avatar in the top right corner and go to “User Profile”.

  2. Scroll down to Security Settings and click “Setup” under 2-Factor Authentication.

  3. You will be asked to confirm your password.

  4. Choose the authentication method you want to use: SMS or Authenticator App. We recommend using the Authenticator application because it is more secure than SMS. You can download it from the Apple or Google app store. Using this application will generate backup recovery codes that you can use as an alternative method of authentication.

If you choose the Google Authenticator app, click “Setup”

  1. You will be asked to download the application on your mobile phone

  2. Scan the QR code

  3. Enter the code generated via the app.

Note: when you login next time, you will be asked to enter a verification code at every login, so keep your phone nearby. You can get the code from the Google Authentication app. If you do not have it handy, you can always use a recovery code.

If you choose SMS authentication

  • Enter your phone number and you will receive a text message with the verification code that you can enter here.

Note: you will receive a new verification code at every login.

Frequently asked questions

What shall I do if I lose my 2FA device?

If you lose your 2FA device, you will not be able to access your account. To remove 2FA and access your account, contact RealAtom Support:

  1. Email us at support@realatom.com.

  2. Or contact us directly from your login page via chat.

Note: generally, to reset an account will take 48 to 72 hours. If someone fraudulently resets your two-factor authentication, the 48-to-72-hour window will give you time to view the reset notification (in your email inbox) and then alert RealAtom Support of the fraudulent activity.

After setting up 2FA, you will be provided with backup codes. You can either copy and paste them to a safe place, or click on “Print codes” to download as a PDF and save to your device. 

The combination of Google Authenticator verification and stored backup codes for recovery will give you the most secure and reliable two-factor authentication set up for your RealAtom account.
